GENERAL
QUESTIONS:
What
do I need?
You
need:
an i-box subscription
a computer with soundcard, speakers (or headphones)
and a microphone
any broadband internet connection
What
is Voice- Over- IP?
Voice-over-IP
(VoIP) is the two-way transmission of audio signals
over a packet-switched IP (TCP/IP) network. VoIP
usually refers to the transport of the audio signal
over the public internet, the internet backbone
of a Telecommunications carrier, private wide
area network (WAN) or intranet.
Does
the i-box PC Phone replace my existing phone service?
No.
The i-box is an enhancement to your existing phone
service, not a replacement. It allows you to choose
between the two, for long distance use the i-box
PC Phone, for local calls use your existing service.
Another big advantage of the i-box PC Phone is
that you can now make more than one call at a
time so you effectively get a second phone line
for free.
What
am I paying for?
Your
i-box community membership is charged on a flat
monthly fee and provides you with full access.
This fee will be based on the service plan you
selected with the help of your i-box partner.
Calls made to the i-box community are unlimited
and FREE. Calls that you make to non-i-box community
members using the Public Switched Telephone Network
(PSTN) will be charged by the minute at a preferred
long-distance rate available through your i-box
community membership.
What
are the costs per minute in the same country,
Germany for example?
If
your call is within the i-box community the call
is FREE. If you are calling outside the i-box
community, the cost per minute is determined by
the country you are calling into. If it is the
same country, you still pay the rate for that
country as listed on the i-box member special
long-distance rate tables.
Are
i-box PC Phone services different from other voice-over-the-Internet
offerings?
The
i-box PC Phone service is the only world-wide
service that offers Free Unlimited calls within
the i-box community. Some of the unique features
include world-wide portable access to i-box community
services, and access over any standard computer
with soundcard and broadband equipment. With the
i-box service you will also be provided with access
to the only world-wideconverged data and voice
network managed to offer state-of-the-art VoIP
quality.

& ‘firewalls’?

please set this to open up port 15061.

this service work on my Palm based PDA?
There
are currently no supported PC Phone clients for
the Palm based operating system. We expect this
to change with the introduction of Palm OS 6.0
based units next year.
USING
I-BOX PC PHONE:
Do
I still have to dial 011 to make International
calls?
Yes.
Your long distance calling pre-fixes do not change.
What
is the i-box phone number?
The
i-box number resembles a standard phone number
in order to make i-box dialing more intuitive
for subscribers. It is actually an internet telephone
number which allows access to the I-box Network.
Can
I use my I-box PC Phone from anywhere?
Yes.
i-box PC Phone can be accessed from anywhere in
the World, not just North-America. It replaces
the need for any calling cards from and to anywhere
in the world.
How
do I make a local call?
All
calls made through the i-box system are by nature
International. The dialling prefix is 011 for
any country outside of the United States and Canada.
If you're calling within the United States or
Canada, dial 1 plus area code and the number.
For
example, to call someone in Germany, you would
dial 01149 for Germany, plus the regular number.
Remember, to omit the first 0 if the number you
have starts with 0.
SOUND
ISSUES:
How
is the sound quality of the i-box PC Phone?
The
i-box PC Phone delivers telco (telephone company)
voice call quality. Your friends or business associates
will not even know you are calling them over the
Internet until you tell them.

noise-cancelling headsets and headsets with DSPs
